Thanking Mother Earth

Our Planet is taking a holiday for few days.
As we all are at home,  indoors with our family for next 15 days and more in the name of epidemic outbursts, lets use this time , to look into us , deeply look within our consciousness on what we do to our mother earth!

Miracles are on the way.

The Environment is in us not outside of us.
The trees are our lungs.
The rivers are our bloodstream
We are all interconnected and what we do to our environment , ultimately
we do to ourselves!!

Our Mother Earth provide enough to satisfy every human need but not every human greed.

She Laughs in Flowers
She Nurtures through Trees , Rivers , Seas and Plants.
She Protects through Mountains.
She Speaks through Sunshine
And Shower Love with Rain."

But What Have We done In Return To Her??

Today , on behalf of the human race....

I thank my Majestic Earth for being so much kind , caring and beautiful to us inspite of WE being so rude, greedy and ruthless to her.

I thank her for loving us unconditionally!!!

I thank her for the patience and for her tolerance towards human created pollution and atrocities that was done to her all the last million years.

Today with deepest love and gratitude I thank my earth for giving me a beautiful place to live inspite of all odds.

I thank her for all the gifts that she gives every single day to nourish and sustain us.
We must remember that our very being, essence , health and happiness depends on Mother Earth.

We dont have to sacrifice a strong economy for a healthy environment.
Its possible.
Miracles are on the way.
Revive your connection with nature.

Today , I promise to take care of my mother planet .
And strive to work hard to keep it safe for all the living beings of earth.

Sustainable Living Ideas

🌞A Journey of Thousand Miles begins with a single step .🐾

Regardless of whether you’ve decided to go green to help the environment, to save money, or just see how easy it is, every step you take towards eco-friendly living is one that helps the world.
If you’re just starting out and want some sustainable living ideas then here are a couple to get you started

Step 1 : Conserve Energy

Energy conservation is one of the most important things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint.
Walk or Cycle if you can instead of taking your car or motorbike.

Step 2: Compost

If you have let your food go for waste far past its best then you need to be sure to compost it rather than putting it in the bin. Not only will this help create a natural fertiliser and keep your garden green, it’ll also reduce the amount of waste going to landfill - and as it won’t break down anaerobically, there will not be a build-up of methane gas.

Step 3: Try to cut out plastic

Plastic seems to have found its way into every single aspect of our lives. However, giving it up isn’t as difficult as you might think – bring a cotton cloth bag with you when you go shopping, buy your fruit and veg loose.Switch your Tooth brush to Wooden Brush.
Store your greens in cotton fridge bags instead of plastic carry bags.Use a Wooden Comb.

Step 4 : Recycle everything

Chances are that if you’re thinking about taking on a more eco-friendly lifestyle then you’ll already be recycling. But could you improve your recycling-ability. You can recycle almost everything, from batteries to paper to cars. Before you throw it away, take a minute to find out if you could recycle it instead. Or look for retailers who sell recycled goods and purchase them more.

Step 5 : Have your purchases shop delivered

Home delivery is like the public transport of goods. Instead of having 20 odd cars make their way to the supermarket – one van drives around delivering to everyone in the area. Additionally, it means you’re less likely to impulse buy which can help to reduce any wastful shopping.

Step 6 : Buy local

From clothes to food, the closer to home these products are made and bought, the less carbon is created with their transportation. Not only that, but you’ll be supporting the local economy which means that in time you’ll likely have even more local items to choose from.

Step 7 : Grow your own

Growing your own veg isn’t just a good way to save money, it’s also a great way to cut down your carbon footprint and be eco-friendly. Don’t have any outside space? Windowsill boxes are a great way to brighten up your view, filter the air coming into your home and offer plenty of space for herbs and small vegetable patches.

Step 8 : Choose your personal care wisely

When it comes to personal hygiene there are several things you need to be careful to avoid for a truly eco-friendly lifestyle. The most damaging of these is microbeads, which are small bits of solid plastic which aren’t biodegradable and make their way into watercourses and ultimately end up damaging the environment by entering the food chain. Make sure that your body wash, toothpaste, face scrub and other products do not contain these beads. In addition to this, avoiding chemicals and opting for natural cleaning products like home made bioenzyme or a herbal soap dish wash powder, etc.

WHY YOU MUST CHOOSE TO BUY HANDMADE PRODUCTS?

Namaskaram
Greetings from Sangeeni's Raise The Earth.

We live in a place where everything are produced in mass. Of course..
That is not wrong . It is amazing that a majority of things are bulk produced, factory made.
But do you know , now a days many people, and communities have started supporting and welcoming hand made products .
In case you had never got the opportunity to know or appreciate them,  here is a small write up on why one must choose to buy hand made products.
And why handmade goods are suggested to be a better choice compared to mass production products?

TOP 10 REASONS TO BUY HANDMADE PRODUCTS

1. Handmade products add value to the producer. It gives life to a commodity which otherwise has no personal touch and human value.

2. Handmade products are created in a world of pride, joy and creativity .
The maker is proud of the creative product he has made unlike products made by machines. The handmade product contains the natural joy of the creator. Its as unique as its maker

3.  Handmade products cannot look alike.
No two handmade products can look same. Therefore it cannot be duplicated at all. Atleast there might be a 5% change either in colour, size or look of the product.

4. The producer can personalise the product according to the instructions of every single client. It can be highly individualized.

5. Mass production- You can gift a uniquly produced item to your best friend and which every individual too has the same design.
Or gift handmade product designed by you.

6. Handmade products reduce carbon prints .

7. Handmade are mostly eco friendly .

8. You give a living to a individual labour by purchasing his handmade product . The seller is most of the time the producer or a trusted sales vendor .

In case you opt a machine based product you may end up living in an self centred society. Be the change you want to see in others.

9. An age old dying craft is restored by supporting handmade .

10. You promote the handmade products made by a  local vendor .

Many may not instantly get convinced by seeing your products.
But Iam sure you will be hearing beautiful lines from you clients saying -
We simply love your work.

Launching Sangeeni's Raise The Earth

Having being brought up in a joint family where my grandmother, Periappa and Parents, were people who loved the outdoors, it seems only natural that I developed a passion for the environment. I grew up with the mentality of being a little more conscious of using resources, of protecting the environment and the natural life.
Thanks to an ever increasing number of sustainability initiatives at Chennai city especially for last one decade. It all began with my association with few dedicated NGO’s like Restore in Kottivakkam and Chennai Trekking Club., etc. I participated in many environment-themed projects and campaigns conducted by them, including tree plantings, Beach cleanups, and fun events like turtle walk ,composting and kitchen garden workshops, etc.
There are always consequences to things we want to do and there are definitely challenges. I wanted to create a world where everything is clean, pollution free and safe for me and for everyone. I wanted to grow my own veggies, manage by garbage and lead a sustainable life.
Staying in an urban area, in a rented house, it was impossible to get a space to just cultivate my own veggies. My landlord initially did not object my wish to put up a kitchen garden in my backyard. But after a year, he did. He was saying my plants were consuming more water and that according to Vastu, no big plants must be grown on the north east directions of the plot.
Meanwhile, one day I noticed, the eastern side of a Corporation park on Seventh Main Road, R. A. Puram, was overgrown with weeds and bushes. I got an idea. I approached West Raja Annamalai residence association or RAPRA in short which is ably managed by Dr.Chandresekar and volunteers. I proposed to cultivate a community vegetable garden there. RAPRA members welcomed the proposal and encouraged me to conduct several more green initiatives with full support. I take this opportunity to Thank Dr.Chandresekar for his nobleness and for patronizing even the small dreams of common people like me. One of the significant way I work to promote sustainability is by reducing waste in an effort to save money, resources, and energy. On those lines, evoked the need to prepare bio enzymes. Just like the previous attempt,  I approached the volunteers and members of SWM and TAKSRA from our neighborhood.  One of the main priorities for sustainability is waste diversion—keeping as much trash out of landfills as possible by emphasizing recycling and composting. TAKSRA  supported me by bringing in experts like shobha and Swamy who have been doing bio enzymes for many years .Bio enzymes are nothing but chemical free home cleaners made with discarded fruit peels and jaggery fermented for a stipulated amount of time, filtered and used as an alternative to chemical based home cleaners which we easily get in the markets. And thus the programe was held.
I cease this moment to thank Bala ,Ganga ,Shobha,Kripa from CAG and Karpagam to thank them personally for conducting this bioenzyme workshop and making my wish come true.
I noticed many of my friends and family members cared about protecting the environment but were at times confused by the information they heard about sustainability. I also found that people would sometimes resist change if they felt it would inconvenience them or disrupt their daily behaviors. My love for sustainability lifestyle soon led me to launch my own green store.
And I named it Sangeeni’s Raise The Earth
Looking at environmental issues, I feel it deals with the poor and vulnerable, who are most adversely affected by environmental issues. I also think about the future generations who are adversely affected by what we’re doing today due to climate change, nuclear waste, the accelerated rate in species extinction, and loss of habitat. I feel we are robbing future generations of an inhabitable planet. “It’s really difficult to inspire changes in sustainable consumerism unless the alternative is really easy. And I hope through Sangeeni’Raise The Earth , this will soon be a reality.

Life in The 80's and Why Sangeeni's Raise The Earth was born

When I was a kid I used to watch my Jack Periappa bring home various old magazines and books from waste paper stores . He would tell us to read them and develop our general knowledge. So there started my love for books. He could have bought a new magazine ,but he did not do so!
I used to read a lot of sustainability related articles and how we can be a minimalist. I liked the idea of sustainability, which my periappa was constantly enforcing on us,
Not to waste Electricty
Not to waste Water
Not to waste Food
Being a  child of the 80's , I grew up in a society that was very responsible in saving natural resources My mom  preferred to use cloth bags for shopping which she would carry it always in her handbag .
Ghee and Oil was bought from local "Chekku" in big "thooku"
Milk man used to come over and door deliver milk in our own containers or people used to go to local milk booth and pick up milk in their own containers.
Groceries used to be packed in small "Potli" packed of newspapers .
In the 80's we used to play with wooden toys which my grandparents would gift us whenever they visit a pilgrimage tour.
My mom cooked in earthernwares and used traditional grinding stones such as ‘ammi' and ‘attukkal' . Bronze wares with eeyam and iron kalchatti were all of the 80's icons.
But now they have become a thing of the past, with the advent of electrically-operated household appliances .
in those days, our kitchen waste were decomposed in lands behind our houses and the manure got from them were used to grow herbs. My mom would  grow mint ,coriander and curry leaves at home .
 Now days things have changed.
As I grew up,slowly all the good old habits and practises were vanishing.
There was a vaccum in between . And gradually things were metamorphing to a plastic world.
All of a sudden nearing 2000 and onwards, the media started publishing posts on Pollution,Global warming and Green practises. These stories inspired me. and when the calling came I decided to promote only Sustainable products which are environment friendly, and which brings only wellbeing and safe products for the end user. Thus was born Sangeeni's Raise The Earth on January - 1st 2018!
